Default Hardcore only?

Hi

I've never been an 'uber' gamer. Mostly, I enjoy dabbling with several kinds of games but always get my backside kicked in UT2004 and similar games and tend to avoid PvP in games like WoW since you always get your backside handed to you on a plate by someone who happens to be damn good.

So, here's Guild Wars. Looks good, sounds like fun but will it be playable by a more casual gamer like myself or is only suitable for the hardcore?

Thank you for reading

Paul

yes i plan to enjoy this game and i am pretty casual, but imo the only difference between a casual player and a hardcore player is time. I don't define 'casual' as 'half-hearted'. 8 hours per day = hardcore 4 hours per day = casual

since there are no subscription fees, this game is exceptionally suited to the casual player...and content updates are almost guaranteed to be more frequent/better than in other games...if these guys don't release new content, they don't get paid.

If your enjoyment is at all dependant on ranking high in pvp, then you will not enjoy this game as a casual gamer.

PvP rankings will always be dependant on one thing: the time you are willing to invest/waste.

You could theoretically be an exceptional 1 vs 1 pvper, but if you don't play 24/7 you're not going to rank high.

I don't care at all about rankings, so i'm sure i'll have a blast pvping.

the casual gamer has 4 toons to start with, and it will take much longer to get them ascended (level 20) than a hardcore gamer. I've been playing for a couple days with all my free time, and have only one toon at level 7. A hardcore gamer could easily have 2 toons to 20 in that same time.

heh I wouldn't call 4 hours a day casual.

But yes, a casual player can play this game and enjoy it. You can easily group with people at staging areas for missions, join up in PvP with a simple click of a button at the Arena, or go solo with a couple of Henchmen for as long as your little heart desires.

So I would say min time dedication to enjoy yourself is like 20 minutes or so. Though you can be up and running, active and enjoying yourself, in 5.

Also, "Hardcore" people aren't going to have a great advantage over you in terms of equipment or level in say 3 months or so. You can only pack 8 skills, everyone has access to about the same "level" of equipment (no Uuber Sw0rds of Burn1nat!ng). Guild wars is a relatively level playing field in terms of character power. Now your ability as a player to leverage your character's skills is a whole different story. But there's always going to be someone out there who is better than you. At least you know it's not because they spent 200 hours camping to get a great item that you'll never have access to.
